EXIMBANK supports the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia

EXIMBANK, as a strategic partner, supports the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The project On the Thousand and Second Night, created by Pavel Brăila and curated by Adelina Luft, opens to the public on May 7, 2026, in Venice, at the Santa Veneranda Chapel, part of the Chiesa dei Santi Geremia e Lucia.

As part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, EXIMBANK reaffirms its commitment to supporting art and culture. Intesa Sanpaolo promotes and safeguards artistic, historical, and cultural heritage, while supporting initiatives and projects that ensure public accessibility through collaboration with museums and international cultural institutions. The Group also develops partnerships between the public and private sectors as part of its programs dedicated to cultural and civic development.

The 2026 edition of La Biennale di Venezia is held under the theme “In Minor Keys”, and the project On the Thousand and Second Night marks the first participation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, and supported by EXIMBANK.

We are honored to support the Republic of Moldova’s first participation in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, which reflects our commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that build bridges between communities. In a European space marked by mobility and interconnectedness, we believe in the role of art in bringing together diverse perspectives and opening a necessary dialogue about the present and the future,” said Marco Trevisan, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Management Committee of EXIMBANK, a bank of Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

Participation in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia provides a vital opportunity for Moldovan artists to connect with international audiences and to showcase their cultural heritage in a global context.

I feel deeply connected to how this work has taken shape. It carries a poetic and emotional weight, while also delivering a strong and direct message. At the same time, there is an inner conflict: this is not the kind of work I would choose to make under different circumstances. I would rather be working on something else, something not shaped by war.
Yet, in moments like this, silence feels inadequate. There is a need to speak, to respond, to make visible what cannot be ignored. Perhaps through such gestures, however small, we contribute to a collective voice, one that insists on change, and holds onto the hope that this thousand and second night will arrive, when we can begin to tell entirely new stories, beyond the shadow of war, violence, and terror,” said artist Pavel Brăila.

The Republic of Moldova’s participation project reinterprets storytelling, reflecting on how collective imagination can shape possible futures through an intersection of traditional elements and contemporary technology.
